Intro Biology Modules
What Is It?
Detailed models and imagery are a great way to introduce the basics of biology to your students. Images may be incorporated into slide decks or supplemental instructional material with the appropriate citation. Additionally, the video series “Parts of a Cell” and “Chromosomes and Genes” provide a detailed look into cellular structure. These 3-D videos allow users to identify important structural features using labels.
How Does It Work?
Cells, chromosomes and genes are all essential components to teaching genetics and genomics. This resource provides imagery and videos to help users visualize the details of these complex structures and better understand how they are all related. Learners can click through the YouTube playlist at their leisure exploring the intricate details within a cell, chromosomes or base pairs. Images are clearly labeled, and labels will appear as appropriate throughout the videos. Descriptions are listed beneath each video or image.
Why Is It Important To Me?
Freely available images are often difficult to find but can enhance your lesson plan when describing objects that are not easily observable. Videos in 3-D are especially valuable for students who have difficulty imagining objects that are too small to see, or usually shown to them in only two dimensions. The three different text levels are also a great option for classes of students with diverse abilities. All students will gain a deeper understanding of structures and organelles.
